Kasey and his group are interested in getting people excited about physics and helping them learn subject. They are focused on improving physics learning in settings ranging from classrooms to breweries. This effort is part of NC State’s Physics Education Research group. Below are some projects on which the group is currently working.
- Graduate Education: The group is exploring different aspects the Physics PhD experience.
- Science on Tap! is a new monthly series which brings the cutting-edge science of NCSU to Triangle residents.
- Sports Science: Sports provide a fantastic platform to showcase how science can explain… Our work can be found on Substack, Instagram, and YouTube. Some examples include The Physics of a Curveball and How to Hit a Homerun.
- CMB Cosmology: We are members of the Simons Observatory collaboration which explores the cosmic microwave background (CMB), the oldest light in the universe. In particular we develop educational materials which teach CMB science.
- Simons-NSBP Scholars Program: Since its inception in 2020, Kasey has been the Director of the Simons-NSBP Scholars Program, a unique summer research program for undergraduate members of the NSBP.
Our group has many projects that are looking for the right person to come along. If you’re interested, please email Kasey with the following information:
- who you are (e.g. “I’m a second year civil-engineering major”)
- the relevant courses or experience you have (e.g., “I’ve done a lot of python coding.” or “I’ve taken courses on digital animation.”)
- why you’re interested in connecting (e.g. “I want to do a baseball physics research project because….” or “I want to understand how people learn in ….”).
