Physics Colloquium: Filomena Nunes

October 5, 2020 | 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Title: Nuclear Reactions for Astrophysics: A Theoretical Perspective

Abstract: Advances in astrophysics require ever more precise knowledge from nuclear physics. Many of the reaction rates of interest for astrophysical simulations cannot be measured directly and instead are
probed with indirect nuclear reactions. A review of the various reaction techniques used to extract the information needed for stars, including their explosions and collisions, will be presented. I will then discuss theoretical developments over the last decade that have impacted the field of nuclear astrophysics and close with the many exciting open questions that reaction theory needs to tackle in the next decade.
