Bio

Dr. Kinley-Hanlon received her B.S. in Physics from American University in 2018 and her Ph.D. from the University of Glasgow in 2023. She began researching material coatings for the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) Collaboration in 2014, formally joining the collaboration in 2016. She expanded on this work during her Ph.D., where she dedicated her research to characterizing and developing substrate and thin-film coating materials and designs to improve the mechanical loss of next-generation gravitational wave detector mirrors. She joined the NC State Physics Department in the fall of 2023, where she runs and develops the experimental labs for undergraduate non-major physics students.
