Title: The Electron Ion Collider: a new tool to study the glue that binds us all….

Abstract: After almost 20 years of sustained evolution of a scientific case made by an international community, in January 2020, the US Department of Energy approved the construction of the Electron Ion Collider (EIC). The EIC promises to make a transformative impact on our understanding of quark-gluon interactions within protons, neutrons and the nuclei that lie at the heart of all atoms which make up the entire visible universe. Profound questions associated with the fundamental properties of matter such as mass, spin remain unanswered despite a half century of theoretical and experimental studies toward the development of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) — the theory of strong interactions. In this talk I will review some of those compelling unanswered questions in QCD that made the case for the EIC and present the status & prospects for its realization.
