Title: Emergent Ferroelectricity in Oxide Membranes
Abstract: Complex oxides are fascinating materials exhibiting a diverse set of electrical, magnetic, optical, and thermal properties. Recent advances in atomic scale thin-film growth of complex oxides enabled the creation of freestanding complex oxide membranes, providing new opportunities for exploring emergent properties in complex oxides with strain and other stimuli. In this talk, I will show our ability to enable emergent ferroelectricity in freestanding crystalline membranes. I will present our work on dynamic strain-induced room temperature ferroelectricity in quantum paraelectric SrTiO 3 membranes, as well as a size-induced antiferroelectric-to-ferroelectric phase
transition in NaNbO 3 membranes.
